Connect your own Meta WhatsApp account
The direct route: your own WhatsApp Business account, your own number. Messages go out from the phone number ID you configure, and the status Meta reports back is normalized into the same statuses as SMS.
What you need from Meta WhatsApp
Gather these in the Meta WhatsApp portal first. The connection form asks for exactly these fields and nothing more.
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| accessToken | Access Token. A token for your WhatsApp Business account. |
| appSecretoptional | App secret. Only needed if you want inbound messages. It is under App settings → Basic; it is a different value from the access token. |
Credentials are sealed with AES-256-GCM and the console only ever shows a masked value afterwards. Plaintext is never written to logs and never sent back to the browser.
What we configure on the connection
- Phone number ID. The ID of the sending number in your WhatsApp Business account. It appears in the API path, so it is the identity messages leave as.
- Default send pacing: 20 messages per second. This is a conservative starting point, applied per connection, and you can change it at any time. Your real ceiling is set by Meta WhatsApp — check your account quota and raise the value to match.
Why teams pick Meta WhatsApp
- Sends from your own WhatsApp Business account and number
- Inbound messages verified with the app secret rather than trusted
- Delivery statuses normalized into the same three statuses as SMS
- The account and its reputation stay in your name
Worth knowing
- Meta approves the business account, the display name and the number. That review is between you and Meta, and it happens before the connection can send.
- Without the app secret the console rejects inbound events, so customer replies never reach the inbox.
- The phone number ID is configuration rather than a secret — it is visible in the console, and changing it changes the identity you send as.
What stays on your side
These are yours to hold — and that is the point of bringing your own account: the relationship, the rates and the compliance stay in your name, not ours.
- Meta’s business verification and account review
- The display name and the phone number registered on that account
- Meta’s messaging policies, including what may be sent outside a service window
- The quotas and rate limits Meta WhatsApp grants your account
